2017 – The Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster for Each Animal, Sign by Sign

2017 - Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster Sign by Sign

2017 – Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster Sign by Sign. Moni Castaneda, Feng Shui expert, presents her analysis of the year to come according to the Chinese Horoscope.

In the story that explains the origin of the Chinese Horoscope, when the Jade Emperor of Heaven summoned the animals to the palace, many animals answered his call, but only the first twelve had years named after them.

The Rooster was 10th, and it came in right after the Monkey. To get to the Jade Palace, animals had to cross a great river. The Rooster cooperated with the Goat and the Monkey, and together they built a raft, and used three oars to navigate the tumultuous body of water and get to the other side. Once they crossed, it was every animal for themselves.

What Is the Rooster Like?

Roosters love routines, and are detail oriented, known for their precision. They like money and they are good at making it.

In the Chinese Horoscope, Roosters are considered brave, intelligent and enthusiastic. Roosters love to travel, and learn about new cultures. They are very proud of their intelligence and it can get to their head, making them pretentious and opinionated — they can waste time finding fault in superficial points.  This can lead to loneliness, even though roosters are very sociable in nature. Roosters are confident and strong willed, usually brave.

Roosters like to be the center of attention. They like attention and are often susceptible to flattery. For the same reasons, they also react poorly to criticism.

They excel in arguments and debates, they are never underhanded. Roosters lay all their cards on the table and can be so direct that they disregard other people’s feelings. They like to do the right thing, they are perfectionists and always want to get to the bottom of things. Roosters work well in teams as long as the rules of engagement are clear.

The Year of the Rooster

Rooster years are powerful years. This is a year for moving forward with security. While the year of the Monkey was great for socialization for the sake of socialization, the Rooster likes to have a purpose, and clear intent.

Impressions, especially first impressions are important in a Rooster year. Pay more attention to your looks and the look of the spaces where you live and work.  This is not time to neglect public relations if you are in business. It is a good year to work to forward your reputation.

This is a year for well laid out plans and firm execution of those plans. The Rooster does not like to get stuck.

Strong moral values and hard work will be rewarded in a Rooster year. It pays to work on clearing your purposes and desires from less than love frequencies. The Rooster will not tolerate dishonesty.

In a Rooster year, you have to be good, look good, and appear to be good. Be on time, be loyal, be productive, and you will do OK.

Be direct and truthful with others, but do not neglect diplomacy. This is a good year for making feelings known and expressing grievances.

The Energies of the Year

The year will be a combination of these energies:

  • Rooster
  • Fixed element: metal
  • Year element: fire
  • Energy of the rooster: yin
  • Energy of the year: yin

The Fire Rooster

The Rooster’s fixed element is metal, but 2017 is a fire year. Fire melts metal, so this year the nature of the Rooster would be limited by the general energy of the fire element, if the Rooster itself did not already have a lot of affinity for the qualities of fire.

Roosters like to move forward, towards progress, with honor and integrity. Progress is assured, but it may be slower than what is desired, as every step of the way there will be a need to check and double check for virtue and morality. The Rooster cannot afford to make mistakes in integrity.

People who have a hard time controlling themselves will have a hard time this year. Temperance will be rewarded.

For people who are very outgoing, and free spirits, this year may feel like it is full of restrictions, like they are wearing a straitjacket, but just remember that as long as you proceed with proper ethics your progress is assured.

Shady deals will tend to find all sorts of obstacles this year, because they will be disliked both by the Rooster and by the Fire element (propriety).

Politics around the world will see themselves transformed. Politicians are not yet used to the transparency provided in the age of information, and they think they can continue business as usual. They will discover, many of them the hard way, that it is not possible to continue to operate in the shadows. This, coupled with technological advances, and the Indigo and early Crystalline generations coming into power, will transform the world in ways that until now we have only imagined.

When does the Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster start in 2017?

This Chinese Year starts January 28 of 2017.

Where to Place a Rooster Feng Shui Cure

The Rooster likes to be visible, so ideally you would place an image of a Rooster close to the main entrance of your home, in a well lighted spot. However, the Rooster can also be a great cure for Reputation, so you may place it at the center of your back wall.

Compatibilities of the Rooster

The Rooster has an excellent relationships with the Snake and Ox, and gets along fairly well with the Tiger. With some effort, it can work with the Horse, Monkey, and Pig. The Rooster clashes with the Rat, the Rabbit, the Goat, other Roosters and the Dog.

2017 – Chinese Year of the Fire Rooster Sign by Sign

Here I am sharing with you how the general energies of the year will mesh with the particular energy of your Chinese horoscope animal sign.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Rat Sign

Year of the RatRats have a tendency to cunning and deceit. If people born in the year of the Rat give in to these tendencies, they will suffer in a Rooster year.

Unlike our Western perception of the Rat, in Asia this is considered a very good sign. Rats are super smart, resourceful, hard working, very good at team work, excellent survivors. However, in the story of how the signs started, the Rat arrived first to the summons of the Jade Emperor by convincing the Ox into letting her ride on its head. As they were approaching the emperor, the Rat jumped ahead of the Ox and was first.

Rely on your industriousness and resourcefulness to get ahead this year. Double check your intentions to make sure they follow your own ethical standards. Strive to become a better person, who can rely on themselves, rather than taking advantage of the kindness of others.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Ox Sign

Year of the OxThe Ox gets along great with the Rooster, and is bound to do well this year. Some of the basic qualities of the Ox are valued by the Rooster: being solid and dependable will take you far this year.

Your tendency to never toot your own horn will not serve you this year. Partner with people who can help you show the best in you. Pay close attention to your appearance, as it is very important that this year you look your best, so you don’t lose opportunities.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Tiger Sign

Year of the TigerTigers may find this year slightly boring, as their natural impulsiveness and drive will be checked by the need of the Rooster to make sure that ethics are complied with.

The Rooster approves of your style and the care you show in taking care of your appearance.

Your tendency to take action and think about it later, or figure out what to do on the run may backfire. A little extra planning in the beginning stages of a project will save you a lot of trouble.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Rabbit Sign

Year of the RabbitRabbits like to move at their own pace and not be rushed. This may clash with the energy of a Rooster year, which keeps pushing forward.

Your desire to blend in and not shine will be especially challenging for you, because the Rooster rewards only what is visible.

Use your communication skills to partner with people who can help you show your work and your worth to the world, and things will be easier.

Take care to not confuse your need to rest with indolence. You can still enjoy everything you like, but exercise temperance and motivate yourself to keep going when things seem hard. Remember that the Rooster loves to reward those who show up on time and do the work.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Dragon Sign

Year of the DragonThis year you may feel like your projects and ideas are slowed down. This is because the Rooster likes to double-check procedures before moving forward. The Rooster has no appreciation for your great intuition, and the way you many times “know” what to do without being able to explain how.

If you slow yourself down a bit and take time to explain to others what your plans are and why you want to proceed in a particular direction, they are more likely to work with you, instead of opposing you.

Your creativity will take you far if it comes with proper planning.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Snake Sign

Year of the SnakeYou have a natural ability to make money, and this ability will find few restrictions this year. This is a year when you can advance at a steady pace, relying on your own counsel and sense of good.

Snakes are considered to have great intelligence and a love for study and wisdom.

Your tendency to ruthlessness (the end justifies the means) is the only thing you really need to watch this year. In a year when things are more visible than usual, you cannot afford to ruin your reputation or have others mistrust you. Remember that the Snake crossed the great river coiling itself around a back leg of the Horse. Just as the Horse was arriving before the emperor, the Snake uncoiled itself to take the horses’ spot.

The year of the Rooster will reward your dedication to study and your patience. Add to that a steady work ethic and you will see great success this year.

The Year of the Fire Monkey and the Horse Sign

Year of the HorseThe Rooster likes the Horse. Your strong work ethic and dedication are qualities that the Rooster rewards, as well as your quick mind and ability to find creative solutions to old problems.

The pace of a Rooster year is slower than your own natural pace. This means that this year it could be easy for you to become complaisant, and not accomplish as much as you wish. You know that as much as you like to work hard, you also like to play, and can get sidetracked easily.

Set deadlines and targets for yourself to keep yourself motivated and moving forward. Be careful with too much directness. Use tact and diplomacy when you want to make observations to others. Your frank, often careless communication style will not be welcome this year.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Goat Sign

Year of the GoatEven though in the story the Rooster and the Goat crossed the Great River together to get to the Jade Emperor, they don’t always get along. They clash because they see the world differently.

While the Rooster is always one of the first to try new things, the Goat wants to be sure a path is safe before taking it.

Goats like to be taken care of by others and often partner with stronger people who are protective of them. The Rooster admires those that stand up by themselves and for themselves.

Your unique gentle style may be interpreted this year as laziness or carelessness. This year, you may feel like hiding until next year, but that will not serve you.  Work from your values, with integrity and confidence. This year you will be rewarded if you push the envelope and step out of your comfort zone. Take baby steps to accomplish things that would normally seem overwhelming to you, and you will get where you want to go.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Monkey Sign

Year of the MonkeyMonkeys may have exhausted themselves in the past year, overtaxing their bodies and their minds. This is a time for temperance.

The energy of this year likes your ability to solve problems quickly and your fearlessness in approaching new challenges.

The Rooster dislikes your tendency to trickery. The Year of the Rooster may feel uncertain to you because of how different your energies are.

Think carefully before making decisions. This year, you may not find enough motivation for your active mind from outside sources, so you will need to motivate yourself from within. Look for projects that can keep you interested and busy, while not exhausting you.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Rooster Sign

Year of the RoosterMany people believe that “their” year is an especially good year for them. It is actually the opposite: “your” year is a year when you are especially vulnerable and need to take extra care to nurture your good traits and curb any negative tendencies.

Roosters need to watch out for vanity and a tendency to hurt other people’s feelings. Use diplomacy when making observations to other people, and do not get nitpicky with them. Let small, unimportant things slide once in a while, and you will make it easier for people to coexist with you.

Manage your finances with extra care this year. Extravagance can have a high price. Think twice before making large purchases.

Honor your love of beauty and pay extra attention to your clothes, hair and looks in general. Do not let yourself go.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Dog Sign

Year of the DogIn the Year of the Rooster you need to filter what comes out of your mouth. Remember that as the Rooster likes to criticize, it does not like to be criticized.

You may feel tempted to lash out more than usual. It is important that you surround yourself with people you can trust, and who support you in your endeavors. Dogs need to have a pack!

Your loyalty is one of your greatest qualities, but it can also be a liability. Remember to think for yourself, and not always go with what the group suggests. This year, you may be vulnerable to bad advice from people you care about. Use your discernment to figure out who is a true friend and who is not, and always check with your inner guidance before making important decisions.

The Year of the Fire Rooster and the Pig Sign

Year of the PigThis is a good year to advance your laudable causes. You are likely to find lots of support in community projects.

Pay attention to aesthetics as well as principles. A good message gets farther with a good image.

Your friendly nature will feel at home with the energies of this year.

Beware of your tendency to always see the best in others — when taken too far it may make you justify unethical behavior in those closest to you, and the Rooster will not approve of this.

Making others accountable sometimes requires the ability to face conflict. This is a good year to work on your ability to confront others, which is something that does not come naturally to you. The energies of the year will support you.

Being assertive doesn’t mean stepping on other people’s toes, but it does require you to ask that other people do not step on yours!

Be the Driver of Your Own Destiny

Whatever your sign is, and whatever the energetic forecast looks like for you, you CAN hold the wheel of your own destiny. The most common feedback I get from students of my online courses is this: “Now I know that I  have a hand on what happens next.”

Regardless of what happens in the world, YOU have control of what happens in YOUR HOME, and YOU have the responsibility to create spaces where your happy, harmonious life can manifest.

There are many courses, ranging from free to Feng Shui Consultant Training courses. Take a look, click on the image below:

It is recommended to have an image of the animal of the current year displayed in your home to help you be in tune with the energies of the year. Because the rooster likes attention, it should be placed in a prominent position.

It is also a good idea to have an image of the animal of your sign AND an image of your Zodiacal sign, if you have issues with self-knowledge (your decisions seem great, but when the things you wanted become true, you are still not happy) or if you have had a hard time with love relationships. You place these 2 images together in the Wisdom, Self-Knowledge and Rest area of your home. After a breakup, these can be put in your master bedroom too. You need to know who you are before you can know who you can love!

  1. I’m going to have to remind myself. I thought I was the snake, but then I read “my tendency toward ruthlessness” and laughed! 🙂 I love the Chinese New Year traditions. When should we clean and place our red envelope outside the door?

  2. Really great article. I’m a Monkey and definitely resorted with tiring myself out. I’m looking forward to creating more balance this year and am looking for a few new projects that I can finish. I tend to be a good started lol. I’m definitely feeling more relaxed about the year and learning to leg go a little and relax. I’m currently in a snake luck cycle. Would this affect me positively I wonder given it is compatible with the rooster? Tiger is also in my day pillar so I’m hoping for a somewhat smooth ride although I appreciate some obstacles are usually the norm!

    • I think with good chi any year can be a good year. In the type of Feng Shui I practice, we believe that luck is mainly a byproduct of the quality of the chi in your own energy field. So more than cycles, and astrological projections, what matters is your internal condition. The same situation can be a blessing for one person and a tragedy for the next!

  3. I think this was very interesting reading. I’ve heard that the dragon is in the North East this year. To the north east is my toilet … I want it to be a productive year. I thank you for tips.

    • Ann, you can treat bathrooms as if they were missing corners or sectors, to make sure that they do not affect the quality of the chi in your home, regardless of where they are located.

  4. Dragon here. Good note about the creativity!

  5. Just looked it up and found out I’m a goat this is all new to me it’s very interesting. How are the products you offer a cure?

    • The cures I offer for the signs of the Chinese horoscope contain artwork created by healer Bill Austin, who practices vibrational healing. Bill set the intent for this artwork to help people accept their signs, strengthen the good points of their sign, and transcend or transmute the so called “negative” traits of signs. Both Bill and I believe that your astrological signs are part of the original design for your life and hold clues as to what it is you came to do — your life missions. I am a goat too!

  6. Thank you for the article. Very informative and interesting. I am also new to feng shui, do we decorate with this year’s Rooster or our own personal animal sign, or both as a cure? Thanks so much Moni!

    • Hi Kimberly, it is recommended to have an image of the animal of the year displayed in your home to help you be in tune with the energies of the year. I added a link above the comments so you can check out the Zodiac cures.
